How to Shave Your Balls the Right (i.e. Safe) Way

You've thought about it, sure, but the idea of shaving your balls sounds better on paper than it does in reality — mainly because they're fragile, and, well, your balls. But it's not impossible. First, a very important tip before you get started: “It’s easier to shave your balls when they’re loose-y goose-y [which they'll be in a warm shower], because the razor can’t get to the hairs stuck in the nooks and crannies when they’re shriveled up,” explains Melanie Mari, owner and trained manscaper at Bare Skin Studio. With that trade secret up your sleeve, let’s take a step-by-step look at the best way to shave your balls:

Step #1: Trim the Bulk

But be careful doing so: “Don’t use electric clippers directly on your balls because you’ll catch skin,” Mari warns. “If your ball hair is really long, float the clippers over the skin to remove some length.” Taking down the bulk will keep long hairs from getting stuck in your razor when you go to wet shave, making the job a whole lot easier.

Step #2: Take a Hot Shower

Shaving your gummy bears in a hot shower is beneficial for two reasons: First, the warm water will soften the particularly coarse pubic hairs. The second goes back to that tip we mentioned right off the bat the warmth will cause you balls to droop, stretching the skin and making it easier to shave.

Step #3: Grease Your Balls

Not with actual grease, of course. “I recommend using a Shave Butter, rather than a shaving cream,” Mari says. “That way, you can see exactly what you’re doing down there.” This is especially important when you’re wet shaving your balls, since as everyone with balls knows, they’re particularly prone to nicks and cuts.

Step #4: Stretch 'Em Out

It’s important to stretch your ball skin while shaving it. That way, the skin will be taut — as opposed to soft and shriveled — which makes for a much safer shave. Shave with gentle strokes. Then, finish up with something soothing. “I recommend using a Post-Shave Dew down there once you’re done shaving,” Mari says. This can be a life saver, since the skin surrounding your testes is extremely sensitive and prone to irritation. Having a mega-smooth undercarriage might not be something you brag about to your friends, but knowing how to shave your balls like a pro saves a lot of time and hassle, and trust us when we say you'll get better at it every time. Stay smooth and stick with it.
